The Colonel [as he was commonly called] was command bomber pilot SAC USAF 98th Bomb Wing & served in WW2, Korean Conflict & Viet Nam on the latter with the B-52.

E.D. Smothers was a rancher in southern Lavaca Co TX. He raised prized Braham cattle & stock horses. The family ran a large ranch which is still in the family. They were devout Southern Baptist. E.D. [Ed] was 1 of 6 children born to John Wesley Smothers & Cora Belle Kelly. There were 3 sons and 3 daus.

E.D. & his brother Kelly both md Miller sisters. E.D. was the only son to have a son to carry on the Smothers line, Col. James Edwin Smothers I. The Colonel named his son James Edwin Smothers II and James [Jim/Chip] named his son James [Jimmy] Edwin Smothers III. Jimmy broke tradition & named his son Treston Joseph. The family from E.D. down were born in TX & in 1964 James II moved to Washington state followed by his sister Nena Jr in 1972 where both families presently live. This move was instigated from passion of the beautiful Northwest when the family once resided in Spokane Washington & the Colonel was stationed at Fairchild AFB.
